We build enduring strategic foundations with construction innovators.

Methodology

How we work

Our expertise and nimble organisational setup allow us to partner with companies on a contract basis for projects, whether fixed-term, fixed-project, or as an ongoing strategic engagement.

This FAQ section outlines our approach to client partnership, ensuring clarity, accountability, and a shared commitment to building a better industry.

  • Due to the critical role we play in the construction and AEC industries, we partner with a wide range of clients. This has included construction companies, architects, and manufacturers through to research organisations, member bodies, and governmental bodies.

Prior to any engagement, we evaluate potential clients for values alignment, fit, and whether we believe we can add value or provide practical advice. On the rare occasion that we don't find strategic or values fit and need to decline engagement, we will advise early and quickly.

  • Our scope of engagement is always tailored to meet client requirements. This scope is established following a deep understanding of client pain points and a bespoke proposal for your approval.

    • We know from experience that providing clients with a known, exclusive, and fixed allocation of time to your project provides the best balance of value and certainty.

    • Our costs are predictable, measurable, and we are accountable for our scope of services.

    • We believe in Paul Graham’s “Manager vs. Maker” schedule: while each engagement highlights which mode offers the best productivity, Daiman Otto typically works best as a “Maker.”

  • As an SME, we have a deep appreciation for the expertise in our industry.

    • We ensure that our work, claims, and conclusions are supported by verified, 3rd party research and evidence.

    • We provide services based on our own developed proprietary tools and methods.

    • On occasion, we use AI tools to assist and scale our work. This usage will always be disclosed in our work product and internally verified for accuracy.

    • We engage in continuous improvement and actively seek 3rd party training to enhance capabilities.

    • For insurance matters, this is addressed on a client-by-client, project-by-project basis.

  • This is fundamentally important to us and our clients.

    • We have worked with, and still work under, a range of Contracts, Confidentiality, and Non-disclosure agreements in New Zealand, Australia, and other territories.

    • If we are asked to provide services where we believe there could be a perceived or technical conflict, we will advise you as soon as possible.

    • Where contract requires, we can issue a Register of Disclosure—commercial and contract—to ensure 100% transparency within the bounds and restrictions of existing contractual obligations. This register is continuously maintained and updated.

  • The first strategy is to never take on any engagement with any real, perceived, or potential conflict. We will not compromise on serving our clients with absolute best practice.

    • The second line of defence is to foster and support a culture of collaboration, transparency, and mutual benefit through network effects when appropriate.

    • Our global networks can provide immense value to our clients, with all engagements being managed professionally and confidentially.

    • As per best practice, any conflict or new information that eventuates during our services will be notified and managed professionally.

  • Yes, this is a common and important observation that reflects our strategic approach.

    • Due to the nature of our work, our long-standing engagements, and capability, you will see 3rd party roles Daiman Otto has associated with from time to time.

    • The reason we do this is that we fundamentally support the work of our clients and believe we can provide them with what they need to create unassailable value.

    • These roles are performed on an independent contract basis under a variety of terms of engagement.

  • As an SME, we balance our time between clients to ensure uncompromising quality and dedication.

    • This often means we cannot take on new clients, and we will advise you of this immediately.

    • In some cases, depending on your requirements, we might be available to provide urgent services, provided these do not impact on our existing contracts. We will not compromise on the quality of our work output.

  • Yes. To balance the quality, commitment, and productivity, a minimum level of engagement for clients is typically one day per week, organised into appropriate weekly or monthly blocks.

    • Where you might need a discrete piece of one-off work, we can negotiate a special time and fee.

  • We have professional educational qualifications in architecture, but Daiman Otto and DK Otto Limited has never pursued or held accreditation as a licensed or registered architect or LBP.

    • Where we do not have the experience or capability to provide a client service, we will advise early, decline, and not provide a scope of services.

    • We may suggest others that could provide the work required on client request. Referrals and references are always personally, carefully, and confidentially managed.

  • The main contracting party will typically be DK Otto Limited, a New Zealand-based limited liability company founded and in continuous operations since 2011. Should a SPV or other entity be required, this can be discussed.

  • All of our services are personally provided and/or supervised directly by Daiman Otto.

    • We often augment our capability, in agreement with our clients, by accessing other trusted SMEs drawn from our 20+ year engagement with global experts, burgeoning talent, and digital tools.

    • Future business operations will expand to provide better service, but utlimately Daiman otto will take resposnsibility for all work product.

  • Everything we do is based on deep analysis of your pain points, measured against our own experience and relevant industry measures.

    • This approach results in highly-detailed, nuanced, and practical strategies and actions for implementation.

    • We highly value transparency, directness, and collaboration to create long-term relationships with all of our clients and partners.
